Top 5 Tips For Installing Aluminium Windows
1: Check your measurements
When getting started, double-check that the measurements of your aluminium windows match the space you have in the wall for the installation — checking both the length and height. Pre-drill your holes into the top, middle, and bottom of each reveal. This makes it easier when it comes time to attach the window to the wall.
2: Positioning & Levelling
After making 100% sure your aluminium window is the right size, it’s time to get it into place. Rope in a friend or two to help you with this. Once the window is in position, use a spirit level on the window ledge to check that it’s flat and adjust as needed.
3: Make sure it’s perfectly flush
Once the aluminium window is level, make sure it is flush against the inner wall. Place a set square against the wall, pushing from either the inside or outside so that the unit fits flush with the wall.
4: Attach the first side
Use the set square to ensure the aluminium window stays flush with the wall while you drill the holes in accordance, so that one side of the window is fully attached to the wall. Once one side is in place, you should be able to complete the project without extra support holding up the window.
5: The second side
You can attach the second side of the aluminium window in the same way you did the first. Check for gaps between the window and the wall (before drilling in the screws); fill any with spacers before you start drilling (which can be gently tapped into any gaps using a hammer).
Remember:
While aluminium is extremely lightweight (which makes it a great, easy metal to work with when you’re installing your new windows and/or doors), you should still consult a professional supplier and installer to help you get the job done.
